Green & Carter have been pumping the world’s water for over 200 years.
In 1774, we invented and patented the hydraulic ram principle. From this ingenious concept, the hydraulic ram pump was born and commercialised in 1796.
Whilst Green and Carter have modernised the design and improved efficiency over the intervening years, the fundamental principle remains the same today.
Put simply, a ram pump generates all its power from the flow of water – no electricity or generator are required.
It then uses that power to pump a portion of the water, or water from a secondary source such as a spring, to where it’s needed.
The brilliance of its simple design means that it requires minimal maintenance and our pumps keep on going, year after year, decade after decade.
There are ram pumps that are over a century old that continue to work as well as the day they were installed, and even neglected pumps can be brought back to full working order with our reconditioning service.
Green & Carter rams are used all over the world by everyone from landowners to large organisations, as evidenced by our extensive archives dating back to the earliest days of the business.
Far from being museum pieces, however, our hydraulic ram pumps are the very definition of green technology, using 100% renewable energy and lasting indefinitely.
